Traditional VPNs (like OpenVPN) are easily detected by GFW's Deep Packet Inspection (DPI) and blocked. Today, modern bypassing technologies use obfuscated proxy protocols. Shadowsocks, VMess (V2Ray), Trojan, and newer protocols like Hysteria2 and TUIC are designed to blend in with normal HTTPS web traffic, making them much harder to detect.
